REPORT DATE: 04-11-2019 REPORT TIME: 1201 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 04-10-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1658 UTC DATA SOURCE: WORLDVIEW2 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 1.8 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 8.44 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly is believed to be a slick that originated from the destroyed Taylor platform site due to its direct connection to it. The linear slick measured approx. 7.6 nm long in the satellite image as it meandered SSW, but the oil slick was likely longer; the entire slick was not in view in the image. The slick had defined edges and was silvery/white due to the presence of sun glint. NOAA buoy readings indicated winds were from the NNE at 5 kts in the slick's vicinity at the image. UNCERTAINTIES: A more precise measure of the slick's length could not be determined because the image did not capture the entire slick. The slick was likely longer 7.6 nm.
