REPORT DATE: 04-12-2019 REPORT TIME: 1720 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: SOUTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 04-11-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2311 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5x20 meter LOCATION: 26°10'24" N/77°57'53" W AREA: 3.48 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 26 nmi WNW of Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. It measured approximately 6.1 nmi in length in two parts and was up to 0.25 nmi in width. The anomaly was dark against its background and had unnaturally sharp edges and corners. The anomaly appeared to be a bilge dump. SAR-derived winds at the time of the image were approximately 5-10 kts from the SE. UNCERTAINTIES: Although the anomaly is suspected to be a bilge dump, no vessel was seen within the image. The anomaly was near the edge of the image, and thus it is possible the full extent of the anomaly could not be seen. Despite this, the distinct appearance of a bilge dump leads to medium-high confidence that this is oil.
