REPORT DATE: 04-18-2019 REPORT TIME: 0300 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 04-17-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2351 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 3.39 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform, stretched 4.49 nmi towards the north, and measured 0.72 nmi at its greatest width. Measured winds at the time of observation were 5 kts and from the southeast. Modeled surface ocean currents were towards the southeast and under 1.0 kt. Confidence was determined to be High given the anomaly's association with a repeat leak source and the anomaly possessed a large contrast to its background surroundings. UNCERTAINTIES: There are no uncertainties.
