REPORT DATE: 05-11-2019 REPORT TIME: 1330 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: SOUTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: South Atlantic 6985 IMAGE DATE: 05-10-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2320 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 28°07'39" N/80°18'40" W AREA: 2.43 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. A possible oil slick was centered 25 nm southeast of Cape Canaveral. The broken slick extended 5 nm from northwest to southeast and was up to 0.3 nm wide. Winds were from the east at 5-10 knots at the time. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly appeared to be out of place given its significant contrast to its homogeneous surroundings and well-defined edges and was believed to be a result of bilge dumping due to the widening of the slick with distance from southeast to northwest. Confidence was reduced to medium-high because the anomaly was not connected to a point source, but two target vessels were identified in the satellite image. Target 1 was located in block 7136, 6.4 nm southeast of the southern tip of the anomaly. Target 2 was located in block 6138, 16.7 nm southeast of the southern tip of the anomaly.
