REPORT DATE: 05-11-2019 REPORT TIME: 2230 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 05-11-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1545 UTC DATA SOURCE: ASTER MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 15 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 5.59 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly had good contrast from the surrounding area, and part of the anomaly had sliver shimmer in the sunglint. The northern end of the anomaly was directly connected to the Coimbra Tanker shipwreck, a known repeat leak source. The anomaly was 10nm long and 0.9 nm wide at its widest part, and it was orientated in the north-south direction. The wind was from NW at 10kt. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the presence of sunglint and cloud nearby, the edge of the believed oil slick was difficult to discern at times. Also, there was another darker straight area to the west from the anomaly, but we believe it was likely cloud shadows.
