REPORT DATE: 05-12-2019 REPORT TIME: 1414 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 05-12-2019 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 29°09'36" N/89°27'45" W AREA: 3.15 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to have emanated from an oil facility in Louisiana state waters just outside of West Delta Block 27. The anomaly was believed to be oil due to its large contrast to the homogeneous surroundings, its well-defined edges, and connection to an oil facility. The anomaly measured approx, 3.7 nm long and 1 nm wide. Winds were from the south at 10 kt at the time of the image, according to buoy data recorded nearby. UNCERTAINTIES: Although we cannot be certain of the specific composition of the anomaly, we have high confidence that the anomaly contained oil in some form due to its characteristics commonly seen in oil slicks in satellite imagery.
