REPORT DATE: 05-15-2019 REPORT TIME: 2100 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 05-15-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1702 UTC DATA SOURCE: TERRA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 7.38 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: A possible oil slick was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick appeared to originate from the location of Destroyed Taylor platform, a source of repeat oil leaks. The anomaly was measured approximately 5.0 NMI long by 0.63 NMI wide. The anomaly shows a moderate contrast against the ocean background. The edges of the anomaly are poorly defined. The direction of the anomaly aligns well with surface wind data near the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: The confidence has been downgraded to a medium high due to the nature of this imagery.
