REPORT DATE: 05-24-2019 REPORT TIME: 2045 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 05-23-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1725 UTC DATA SOURCE: WORLDVIEW3 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 1.24 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 2.11 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was believed to be emanating from the known Destroyed Taylor Platform. Although the anomaly seemed large, it was actually very diffused and was drawn to exhibit how far it managed to spread. The diffused anomaly as a whole was approximately 2.04 nm oriented SE-NW and approximately 0.70 nm in width. The anomaly was dark-colored, appeared string-like, and had large contrast against its homgeneous surrounding. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the SE between 10-15 kts which aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the anomaly was unknown.
