REPORT DATE: 05-24-2019 REPORT TIME: 2300 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: SOUTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: South Atlantic 6470 IMAGE DATE: 05-24-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1548 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 31°32'28" N/78°59'23" W AREA: 13.32 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly seemed to be comprised of two portions. The anomaly to the left was approximately 18.87 nm in length and approximately 0.20 nm in width. The anomaly to the right was approximately 16.57 nm in length and 0.15 nm in width. Both portions of the anomaly were dark although the portion to the left exhibited possible thicker oil. They had a large contrast against its homogeneous surroundings. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the SW between 10-15 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The point source of the anomaly was unknown. The full extent was also unknown due to clouds in the vicinity. Finally, the anomaly tested negative for possible vegetation.
