REPORT DATE: 05-27-2019 REPORT TIME: 2130 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 05-26-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2250 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 0.26 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from the Coimbra tanker shipwreck, extended approximately 1.10 nmi to the northeast and measured 0.22 nmi at its greatest width, and clearly widened with distance. It appeared dark in color and had high contrast with the surrounding area. Measured winds at the time of image were 10-15 kts and from the SW, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given the anomaly's association with a repeat leak source and the high contrast to the surroundings. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the repeat leak nature of the suspected source, there are no uncertainties.
