REPORT DATE: 05-28-2019 REPORT TIME: 0015 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 05-27-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1517 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 10.37 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended approximately 9.04 nmi to the south from the site of the Coimbra tanker shipwreck, a known repeat oil leak source, and was up to 0.97 nmi in width. It appeared dark and stood out well against the background. The anomaly also had sharp unnatural turns and exhibited feathering. Winds at the time of image were from the north at 5-10 knots, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly and consistent with the feathering signature. Confidence was determined to be high given the association with a repeat leak source and visible chromatic characteristics. UNCERTAINTIES: There are no uncertainties.
