REPORT DATE: 06-09-2019 REPORT TIME: 0310 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: ALAMINOS CANYON 857 IMAGE DATE: 06-08-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1645 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 26°07'44" N/94°53'52" W AREA: 12.78 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly measured 8.24 NM in length and 1.70 NM in width. Winds were 5 kts out of the West and currents were flowing SE at 1.5 kts. Confidence that the anomaly seen was oil pollution is Medium. The anomaly appears to be originating from an oil facility in the area. The presence of thicker oil around the facility provides evidence that this anomaly started there. The anomaly exhibited feathering and had high contrast with the surrounding area. UNCERTAINTIES: It is possible that the anomaly was originating from a natural seep in the area. There are four known natural seeps within close proximity of the oil facility.
