REPORT DATE: 06-12-2019 REPORT TIME: 0050 UTC REGION: PACIFIC SUB REGION: ALASKA AREA/BLOCK: Aleutian Arc 6472 IMAGE DATE: 06-11-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1745 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 52°33'40" N/172°29'14" W AREA: 1.72 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 17 nmi north of the north coast of Seguam Island in the Aleutian island chain of Alaska. It measured approximately 5.5 nmi in length and was up to 0.35 nmi in width, trailed south and south-southeastward from the suspected source and widened with distance. SAR-derived winds were from the east-southeast at about 15 kts at the time of the image. The anomaly had well-defined edges and was distinct from its surroundings. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly could have been the result of fishing activity. Thus, confidence that this was an oil discharge was medium.
