REPORT DATE: 06-25-2019 REPORT TIME: 1441 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 6627 IMAGE DATE: 06-24-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1536 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 40°24'03" N/72°22'13" W AREA: 0.54 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS REPORT IS BASED ON AN IMAGE CAPTURED YESTERDAY. Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly is believed to have been an oil slick that emanated from the Coimbra shipwreck since it was connected to that site. The slick was 1.5 nm long and encompassed a width of about 1 nm. The slick was well-defined, segmented, and black with a small, white section of thicker oil near the source. The orientation of the slick was supported by winds from the WSW at the time of the image. Wind speeds were about 8 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: Since the anomaly was connected to a repeat leak source and exhibited the characteristics of a marine oil slick, there was no uncertainty that the anomaly was oil.
