REPORT DATE: 07-10-2019 REPORT TIME: 1715 UTC REGION: PACIFIC SUB REGION: ALASKA AREA/BLOCK: Gulf of Alaska 6811 IMAGE DATE: 07-10-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1505 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 55°16'31" N/134°11'39" W AREA: 4.78 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 60 nmi south of Port Alexander, AK and measured about 21.5 nmi in length and up to 0.22 nmi in width in two parts. The anomaly showed some widening with distance in the first portion. It was dark in appearance and the only such feature in the area. A possible vessel was present at the south end of the anomaly. Winds near the time and location of the anomaly could not be definitively determined, The nearest wind observation was about 45 nmi to the north and was 5 kts from the NNW. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly extended beyond the edge of the image. The anomaly lacked appreciable widening beyond the first portion. Winds were likely fairly light at the time of the image. These factors lead to medium confidence that this was oil.
