REPORT DATE: 07-14-2019 REPORT TIME: 2320 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 07-14-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1536 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 1.20 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located at the site of the known Wreck 1487, and was approximately 5.1 nmi in length and up to 0.20 nmi in width in a broad curving pattern that increased in width along the length of the anomaly. It appeared bright shimmery white near to the site of the wreck, suggesting thicker oil, then became dark in color further away. Winds near the time of the image at the nearest observation buoy were approximately 10 kts from the SW. UNCERTAINTIES: The wind direction did not match well with the orientation of the anomaly. Despite this, the repeat leak nature of the suspected source allowed for high confidence that this was oil.
