REPORT DATE: 07-16-2019 REPORT TIME: 0130 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-15-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2355 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 1.55 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil and was observed near the destroyed Taylor platform. This anomaly appeared dark and scattered against the ocean background and given its proximity to the destroyed Taylor platform it was determined to be a medium confidence anomaly. However this anomaly does not display any noticeable feathering and its shape does not have any well-defined boundaries; also its perceived direction of flow does not align well with the winds (SE 12kts). It is possible that the lack of visual evidence in this case was caused by the ongoing work at the destroyed Taylor platform. UNCERTAINTIES: Overall there was a lack of visual evidence of oil in this image; however its close proximity to the destroyed Taylor platform warrants this report.
