REPORT DATE: 07-26-2019 REPORT TIME: 0830 UTC REGION: PACIFIC SUB REGION: CALIFORNIA AREA/BLOCK: Southern California 6838 IMAGE DATE: 07-26-2019 IMAGE TIME: 0207 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 35°13'17" N/122°03'53" W AREA: 7.30 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. A possible oil slick was detected in the Pacific Ocean approximately 73 nm west of Morro Bay, CA. The anomaly was 6.4 nm long from north to south and up to 0.75 nm wide. The anomaly had a high contrast to its surroundings and although the western edges of the anomaly were rounded, the eastern edges were jagged in places. Winds at the time of the image were estimated to be 10-15 knots from the northwest. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was not attached to a point source though there was a vessel detected nearly 68 nm north-northwest of the anomaly. A similarly shaped anomaly was seen some 25 nm south. It is possible this anomaly is a natural phenomenon.
