REPORT DATE: 07-27-2019 REPORT TIME: 1630 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 07-27-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1040 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 0.49 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate to the northeast from the site of the shipwreck known as Wreck 1487. It was approximately 2.3 nmi in length and up to 0.13 nmi in width. SAR-derived winds at the time of the image were around 10 kts from the NE. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was not well-defined, and so the dimensions were uncertain. The wind direction was not well-aligned with the anomaly. Despite these factors, the repeat leak nature of the suspected source allowed for high confidence that this was oil.
