REPORT DATE: 07-28-2019 REPORT TIME: 0200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-27-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1629 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.04 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform. It extended approximately 0.61 nmi to the northeast from the site and measured 0.03 nmi at its greatest width. The anomaly stood out well against the background. It appeared dark and had silver/white shimmer to part of the anomaly. Winds at the time of image were from the ESE at 10 knots. Confidence was determined to be high given the association with a repeat leak source and visible chromatic characteristics. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly extended under cloud cover, potentially obscuring the full extent of the anomaly. The wind direction was not well-aligned with the anomaly. Despite these factors, the repeat leak nature of the suspected source allowed for high confidence that this was oil.
