REPORT DATE: 07-29-2019 REPORT TIME: 1842 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-29-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1614 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 20.01 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The dark feature with a strong contrast to the surrounding ocean surface appeared to be an oil slick that emanated from the destroyed Taylor site, which was in very close proximity. The slick measured 10.6 nm long. Its orientation did not strictly agree with winds from the ENE at 5 kts, but its shape was likely the product of winds and circular ocean currents in the area. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the presence of scattered weather clouds over portions of the slick, plus several gaps within the slick that didn't contain oil, the areal measure of the slick is only an approximation.
