REPORT DATE: 08-09-2019 REPORT TIME: 1405 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: NORTHEAST U.S. AREA/BLOCK: Mid Atlantic 6219 IMAGE DATE: 08-08-2019 IMAGE TIME: 2234 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 41°12'25" N/69°14'42" W AREA: 5.00 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly is believed to have been a possible bilge dumping slick. It was connected to a vessel traveling NW and located approximately 44 nm from Nantucket Island, MA. The anomaly was 11.5 nm long, had moderate contrast to its surroundings, and stood out of place. The anomaly widened significantly at the farthest point from the vessel. Winds were very light at the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: We did not have higher confidence that the anomaly was a possible bilge dumping case because it lacked high contrast to its surroundings and did not widen consistently along its path. It only widened at its farthest point from the source.
