REPORT DATE: 08-30-2019 REPORT TIME: 2020 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 08-30-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1612 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT7 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 9.45 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform and extends ENE for approximately 8.5NM with two embedded sections of possible thicker oil; the sections of possible thicker oil appear silver and are indicative of oil in sun-glint conditions. While wind data indicates that winds were out of the E at approximately 11kts which does not align well with the orientation of the anomaly confidence was still determined to be high given clarity of the imagery and that the Taylor platform is known as a repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: Wind data did not align well with orientation of this anomaly.
