REPORT DATE: 09-03-2019 REPORT TIME: 2345 UTC REGION: PACIFIC SUB REGION: ALASKA AREA/BLOCK: Aleutian Arc 7078 IMAGE DATE: 09-03-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1746 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 52°02'42" N/172°04'34" W AREA: 3.36 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 35 nmi southeast of the south coast of Seguam Island in the Aleutian island chain of Alaska. It measured approximately 3.37 nmi in length and was up to 0.95 nmi in width. The anomaly was connected to a vessel and had good dark contrast to its surroundings. It also showed unnatural sharp turns. Measured winds at the time of image were 10-15 knots and from the WSW. Confidence was determined to be medium-high given that the anomaly was connected to a point source and had good contrast and sharp turns. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly could have been the result of fishing activity. Thus, confidence that this was an oil discharge is medium-high.
