REPORT DATE: 09-08-2019 REPORT TIME: 1315 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: WEST DELTA 140 IMAGE DATE: 09-07-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1626 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°41'23" N/89°41'08" W AREA: 79.77 square kilometers (Updated 05/14/2020) CONFIDENCE: High Note: This image is from yesterday. REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 36 nmi SE of Grand Isle, LA, and was approximately 15.1 nmi in length from NW to SE and up to 6.8 nmi in width from NE to SW. It appeared dark against its background with several areas of milky white suggesting thicker oil. Winds at a nearby observation site at the time of the image were around 9 kts from the N. This anomaly was likely related to NRC report #1257493. UNCERTAINTIES: The slick did not appear continuous, so the surface area was likely overestimated. No obvious point source could be determined, although several oil facilities and pipelines were located in the area. Still, given the NRC report and the anomaly's distinct appearance, confidence that this was oil is high.
