REPORT DATE: 11-10-2019 REPORT TIME: 1640 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SHIP SHOAL 230 IMAGE DATE: 11-10-2019 IMAGE TIME: 1203 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 28°27'13" N/91°01'51" W AREA: 25.84 square kilometers (Updated 05/26/2020) CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate westward from an oil facility before turning more northward, extending approximately 8.9 nmi in length and widening with distance from the source, up to 2.0 nmi in width. The anomaly appeared dark against its background with a few sharper edges. Winds near the time of the image were 5-10 kts from the NE. UNCERTAINTIES: There were no recent reports of oil slicks in the area. The delineated area of the anomaly was approximated. The anomaly may have continued further to the north and west, but was too diffuse to differentiate from natural phenomena. While a point source was identified, there were several oil facilities and pipelines in the immediate vicinity of the anomaly that may have been associated. Confidence that this was oil is medium.
