REPORT DATE: 02-03-2020 REPORT TIME: 0200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 02-02-2020 IMAGE TIME: 1635 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.12 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The narrow anomaly was 1.05nm long and located near the destroyed Taylor platform. The wind at the time was from the NW, which corresponded well with the anomaly orientation at the time. UNCERTAINTIES: There were a lot of sediment at the area, which obscured the features of possible oil. Also, there were bright and dark areas in the vicinities which were likely due to variations in water turbidity. Because of the above reasons and the fact that the anomaly was not directly attached to the Taylor platform, a medium confidence was given.
