REPORT DATE: 02-10-2020 REPORT TIME: 0215 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 02-09-2020 IMAGE TIME: 2359 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.70 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be emanating from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform. It extended approximately 1.88 nmi to the northwest from the site and measured 0.16 nmi at its greatest width. The anomaly appeared dark in color but has a diffuse/moderate contrast to the grey-colored surroundings. Winds at the time of the image were around 10 - 15 knots from the southeast, aligning well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be medium because of the diffuse/moderate contrast. This anomaly was likely associated with NRC report #1270816. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly showed only diffuse/moderate contrast to the background, which reduced the confidence.
