REPORT DATE: 02-24-2020 REPORT TIME: 0930 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 02-24-2020 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 17.18 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended 31 NM in length and was about 1 NM wide at its widest point, was jagged in appearance, had very good contrast with its background and appeared to be associated with the repeat leak source Destroyed Taylor Platform. However, the anomaly did not align well with winds out of the ESE at 5-10 KT at the time of the image. Given the above factors, we have Medium-High confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to lighter winds in the area, the full extent of the anomaly could not be determined. Additionally, biogenic matter caught up in converging currents could be the cause of the anomaly.
