REPORT DATE: 02-29-2020 REPORT TIME: 0845 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 02-29-2020 IMAGE TIME: 0010 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 29°41'03" N/91°47'57" W AREA: 0.17 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. A small oil slick extended 0.5 nm from west-southwest to east-northeast and was up to 0.1 nm wide. The source appeared to be among a series of Louisiana oil facilities located in the West Cote Blanche Bay approximately 3.75 nm southeast of Dead Cypress Point. Winds at the time were from the west at 15 knots, which is consistent with the orientation of the anomaly relative to the suspected point source. UNCERTAINTIES: Although the anomaly stood out, the edges were diffuse. The proximity to shore and the fact that the orientation of the anomaly also aligned reasonably well with the bathymetry further reduced confidence to medium.
