REPORT DATE: 03-08-2020 REPORT TIME: 2350 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 03-08-2020 IMAGE TIME: 1630 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.22 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to be associated with the destroyed Taylor platform, a known repeat leak source. It extended east to west with a length of 1.53 nmi and a width up to 0.08 nmi. The anomaly appeared dark against its background and distinct within its general area. Winds around the time of the iamge were from the SE at 10-15 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: Clouds in the region potentially obscured part of the anomaly. In addition, the anomaly was slightly displaced from the location of the downed platform. Still, given the repeat leak nature of the suspected source, we have high confidence that this is oil.
