REPORT DATE: 03-31-2020 REPORT TIME: 1030 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 03-31-2020 IMAGE TIME: 0001 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 2.21 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. This anomaly is believed to emanate from the destroyed Taylor platform and measures 7.5NM long with a maximum width of .05NM; it appears dark against the ocean background and is generally moving in one direction without many turns. Winds during the time of this image were out of the SE at approximately 11kts conversely the anomaly appears to drift NE from the platform which is inconsistent with the apparent direction of flow however given Taylors history as a repeat leak source this anomaly was given a high confidence level. UNCERTAINTIES: There are some possible false positives that were observed in close proximity to the anomaly and the direction of flow does not agree with the winds during the time of this image.
