REPORT DATE: 04-26-2020 REPORT TIME: 0100 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 04-25-2020 IMAGE TIME: 1913 UTC DATA SOURCE: AQUA MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 250 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 4.43 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. An oil slick extended 3.1 nm to the southwest of the destroyed Taylor platform. The slick was up to 0.5 nm wide and appeared dark on the edge of sunglint. The orientation of the slick was consistent with model forecast ocean currents, which were from the NE, but surface winds were from the west at 10-15 kts at the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: Oil may extend farther SW than depicted here. The coarse resolution of the satellite data does not allow for a precise measurement of the size of the slick.
