REPORT DATE: 12-13-2020 REPORT TIME: 0340 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 12-12-2020 IMAGE TIME: 1040 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1B MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 1.31 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the 1487 ship wreck location and extends N for approximately 5.34 NM with a maximum width of .21 NM. The anomaly appeared dark against the ocean background and was indicative of oil in SAR imagery. Local wind data indicates that winds were out of the South at approximately 5-10 kts and align well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given that the anomaly originated from a repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: Uncertainties are minimal given the documented history of this repeat leak source.
