REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 20 nmi NE of the mouth of the Mississippi River and consisted of several parts within an area approximately 1.6 nmi E-W by 1.1 nmi N-S. The anomaly was near or at the location of a sheen reported in NRC report #1302029, while the image time was about 1 hour prior to that report. The anomaly had a dark, distinct appearance against its background, and was different in appearance to other nearby areas of the image. Winds at the time of the image were from the ESE at 5-10 kts.

UNCERTAINTIES: Although oil pipelines and facilities were in proximity to the anomaly, a point source could not be definitively determined. However, given the existing NRC report, we have high confidence that this was oil.
