REPORT DATE: 04-13-2021 REPORT TIME: 0930 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: WEST DELTA 72 IMAGE DATE: 04-12-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°59'29" N/89°44'20" W AREA: 1.84 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was centered approximately 28 nmi ESE of Port Fourchon, LA, and consisted of separated groups of broken parts along an arc stretching 19.7 nmi in length. The widest portion of the anomaly was up to 0.27 nmi in width. The anomaly was dark against its background with sharp edges on each piece, with a few small areas of shimmery-white areas indicating possible thicker oil. Winds at the time of the image were from the E at 10-15 kts. The anomaly may have been related to NRC report #1302485, which had a reported position near the arc. UNCERTAINTIES: A point source could not be determined. The broken nature of the anomaly suggested a bilge dump, but no likely vessel could be identified in the image. In addition, numerous oil facilities were in the immediate vicinity of the anomaly. Confidence that the anomaly was oil is Medium-High.
