REPORT DATE: 05-05-2021 REPORT TIME: 0345 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 689 IMAGE DATE: 05-04-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1613 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 28°17'35" N/88°31'14" W AREA: 8.65 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly in question was located off the Louisiana coast within the Mississippi Canyon region. It was linear in shape and measured approximately 11.7nm in length and 0.5nm at its widest point. Although, the full extent of the anomaly could not be determined due to the limited satellite imagery over the anomaly. The anomaly displayed a shimmery appearance in sunglint, which may have also been a sign of relatively thicker oil. Winds were generally from the S at 10-15kts at the time of the satellite image. At the time of this report there were not any previous reports of oil in the immediate vicinity. There were a few oil facilities in the area but the anomaly was not connected to any so the point source was unclear. UNCERTAINTIES: Since there were no known reports and the point source could not be determined confidence remains at Medium-High.
