REPORT DATE: 06-09-2021 REPORT TIME: 0320 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 06-08-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1626 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 2.02 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the destroyed Taylor Energy platform and extends N for 7.6NM with a maximum width of 0.2NM. The area of possible oil appeared dark against the ocean background with an embedded section of possible thicker oil that was bright silver and was indicative of oil in sunglint conditions. Wind data during the time of this anomaly aligned well with the orientation of the anomaly. Confidence was determined to be high given that the Taylor platform is known as a repeat leak source. UNCERTAINTIES: Uncertainties are minimal given the documented history of this platform Maps and shapefiles can be accessed at: www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ ERMA: https://erma.noaa.gov/gulfofmexico/erma.html#/layers=1+47417&x=-88.9951975&y=28.960023&z=11&panel=layer If you would like to share any feedback about this report or have questions, please contact the operational analyst at (301) 683-1403 or send to oceanmap@noaa.gov.
