REPORT DATE: 06-10-2021 REPORT TIME: 0700 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 06-09-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1550 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.68 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate northwestward from the approximate site of the destroyed Taylor platform, a known repeat leak source. The anomaly measured approximately 3.25 nmi in length and up to 0.12 nmi in width. The anomaly had a distinct milky-white appearance suggesting thicker oil surrounded by darker areas with poorly-defined edges. Winds at the time of the image were generally from the SSE at 5-10 kts. The anomaly was likely associated with NRC report #1307292. UNCERTAINTIES: Due to the NRC report and the known repeat leak nature of the suspected source, there are no uncertainties.
