REPORT DATE: 09-03-2021 REPORT TIME: 0630 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SOUTH TIMBALIER 41 IMAGE DATE: 09-02-2021 IMAGE TIME: 1638 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'06" N/90°10'49" W AREA: 7.96 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate southeastward from a point source in the Gulf of Mexico approximately 10 nmi S of Port Fourchon, LA, and measured approximately 6.8 nmi in length and up to 0.8 nmi in width. The anomaly appeared faintly dark against its background, with a prominent streak of white and brown coloring suggesting possible thicker oil, with possible signs of feathering. Winds at the time of the image were around 9 kts from the WSW. The anomaly was generally co-located with a previous MPSR associated with NRC report #1315630. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly extended beyond the edge of the image and so the area of the slick was underestimated. The earlier MPSR associated with this anomaly listed a different point source; this image suggested a point source further west from that one. Several oil facilities were in the vicinity of the suspected source point.
