REPORT DATE: 09-16-2021 REPORT TIME: 1110 UTC REGION: PACIFIC SUB REGION: ALASKA AREA/BLOCK: Gulf of Alaska 6610 IMAGE DATE: 09-16-2021 IMAGE TIME: 0237 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 55°26'36" N/134°17'29" W AREA: 1.59 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was approximately 9.3nm in length and up to 0.3nm wide. The anomaly was dark in contrast along with sharp edges. The anomaly appeared to be originating from a vessel and slightly widened with distance, a common characteristic of a bilge dump. Winds at the time of the satellite imagery were W @ 10-15kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly appears to be a classic example of a bilge dump, although there is a possibility that the anomaly was related to fishing activity off the Alaskan coast.
