REPORT DATE: 09-28-2021 REPORT TIME: 0200 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: HIGH ISLAND 129 IMAGE DATE: 09-28-2021 IMAGE TIME: 0015 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: Standard VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 29°16'19" N/93°47'05" W AREA: 2.80 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly had a high contrast to its otherwise homogeneous surroundings, and it had abrupt turns. There were two possible oil facilities from which the anomaly appeared to originate. The anomaly measured approximately 5.9 nmi long in total and approximately 0.28 nmi wide at its widest point. Winds near the time of the image were from the southeast at 10 kts, which oriented well with the direction of the anomaly. UNCERTAINTIES: There may be additional oil in the area, especially to the north, that is very thin and appears light in shade in the satellite image. The detached slicks also appeared more diffuse at times. As previously mentioned, there are two possible point sources, so there is some uncertainty where exactly the anomaly appeared to originate.
