REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. A large anomaly in South Timbalier stretched 21 nm from SW to NE and was up to 4 nm wide. Winds at the time were from the S at 5-10 knots. The anomaly had some well-defined edges, strong contrast, and appeared out of place resulting in medium-high confidence.

UNCERTAINTIES: This anomaly may be associated with numerous NRC reports of an unknown sheen on 2 Oct, including 1318492, 1318479, 1318486 and 1318478, one of which indicated a 5 mi x 2 mi sheen. These NRC reports were located east of the northern end of the current anomaly, suggesting a possible slow progression of the anomaly to the west over time if they are indeed the same anomaly.

It was not known whether two smaller anomalies to the east and west were associated with the current anomaly.
