REPORT DATE: 01-07-2022 REPORT TIME: 1425 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 01-07-2022 IMAGE TIME: 1149 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 50 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'14" W AREA: 0.93 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly extended about 1.3 NM long by around 0.5 NM wide at its widest point and coincided with a known repeat leak source. Moreoever, the anomaly aligned well with winds out of the ENE at 15 KT but had very faint contrast with its background. Considering the above factors, we have MED-HIGH confidence in this assessment. UNCERTAINTIES: Given the faint contrast with its background and the lack of distinct characteristics such as feathering and/or unnatural turns, it is possible that the anomaly may be associated with a feature other than oil.
