REPORT DATE: 02-06-2022 REPORT TIME: 0800 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SHIP SHOAL 291 IMAGE DATE: 02-06-2022 IMAGE TIME: 0010 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 20 meter LOCATION: 28°16'28" N/91°05'32" W AREA: 6.21 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from an oil facility located approximately 80 nm SW of Port Fourchon, LA. It extended to the WNW curving to the SW, and measured approximately 4.3 nmi in length and up to 1.0 nmi in width, widening with distance from the suspected source. The anomaly had a distinct appearance from its surroundings, with moderately sharp edges, particularly closer to the suspected source. Winds at the time of the image were from the NE at around 15 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly blended into the background on its western end, potentially obscuring the true area of the anomaly. While there were no recent NRC reports of a sheen at this location, a previous MPSR from 1/25/2022 and NRC report #1327711 of an observed sheen on 1/31/2022 were both co-located with the anomaly.
