REPORT DATE: 06-05-2022 REPORT TIME: 2215 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: MID ATLANTIC U.S. AREA/BLOCK: North Atlantic 7004 IMAGE DATE: 06-05-2022 IMAGE TIME: 1521 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT8 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 40°06'02" N/69°55'03" W AREA: 6.19 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. The possible oil appeared to emanate westward from Wreck 1487, a known repeat leak source, and curved to the south, east, and northward in a broken streak before appearing to cross itself to the west of the suspected source. The possible oil stretched approximately 16.0 nmi along its discontinuous looping path and was up to 0.6 nmi in width. It had a dark appearance that was somewhat distinct in color from nearby false positives, with some milky-white coloring suggesting thicker oil. Winds at the time of the image were from the NW at around 6 kts. UNCERTAINTIES: The proximity to nearby false positives consisting of likely natural/biogenic material reduced confidence in the actual extent of the possible oil. However, due to the known repeat leak nature of the suspected source, there was high confidence in the presence of oil.
