REPORT DATE: 01-30-2023 REPORT TIME: 0735 UTC REGION: ATLANTIC SUB REGION: PUERTO RICO AREA/BLOCK: N/A IMAGE DATE: 01-29-2023 IMAGE TIME: 2244 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5X20 meter LOCATION: 16°49'49" N/68°20'07" W AREA: 7.48 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. Several linear anomalies were observed crossing from international waters into the US EEZ, 112.5 nautical miles Southwest of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The potential slicks in international waters had strong contrast to their surroundings but were very diffuse. The slicks in the US EEZ were more defined and widened with distance to the Northwest. These characteristics are indicative of a bilge dump travelling in a Southeast direction. Winds at the time are unavailable. The Confidence for this report is High. UNCERTAINITIES: No vessel could be seen in the image as the scene extent was limited, but the report was given High confidence due to the characteristic widening, sharp edges, and strong contrast seen in ship pollution events.
