REPORT DATE: 04-04-2023 REPORT TIME: 1235 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 301 IMAGE DATE: 04-03-2023 IMAGE TIME: 1626 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT9 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 29°12'39" N/88°45'36" W AREA: 0.86 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. An oil slick was seen 94.22 nm Southeast of New Orleans, LA. The slick extended a length of 3.17 nm and had a rough width of 0.1 nm. The slick had strong contrast with the surrounding water and had a large metallic sheen (indicative of thicker oil). Winds were from the south-southwest at 15 knots. The Confidence for this report is Medium-High. UNCERTAINTIES: NRC #1363770 reports that the day prior a nearby oil facility (1.6 nm north of the slick) experienced a mechanical failure, releasing petroleum products into the water. It possible that this slick originated from that incident.
