REPORT DATE: 05-08-2023 REPORT TIME: 1330 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: Breton Sound BS0016 IMAGE DATE: 05-07-2023 IMAGE TIME: 1605 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 29°38'41" N/89°17'43" W AREA: 4.37 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. The possible oil slick was observed in the Breton Sound area just off the Louisiana coast. The possible oil was comprised of two separate slicks. The western slick measured approximately 2.1nm x 0.9nm, with the eastern slick approximately 4.5nm x 0.3nm. The possible slicks exhibited brighter reflectance surrounded by a darker sheen. The bright areas may have been an indication of relatively thicker oil. There were portions of the slicks that also appeared to have feathering features, which was consistent with the 10-15kt SE wind at the time of the imagery. This area may have been associated with NRC #1366513 given its close proximity to the SE. Due to the appearance in satellite imagery and the nearby NRC report, the confidence level is High. UNCERTAINTIES: The full extent of the possible oil slick is unknown due to the area extending past the edge of the satellite imagery. Additionally, a point source could not be determined.
