REPORT DATE: 06-09-2023 REPORT TIME: 0830 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: SOUTH TIMBALIER 30 IMAGE DATE: 06-08-2023 IMAGE TIME: 1622 UTC DATA SOURCE: PLANETSCOPE MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 3 meter LOCATION: 28°59'31" N/90°22'03" W AREA: 5.03 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick was linear in shape, had a dark appearance to the surrounding environment. The slick was located in the South Timbalier area of the Gulf of Mexico. Throughout the slick extents were brighter areas, which are indications of possible thicker oil. The slick was approximately 5.14nm in length (the full extent of the slick could not be identified due to imagery unavailability) and approximately 0.86nm at the widest point of the slick. Winds were out of the north between 10-15kts near the time of the image. UNCERTAINTIES: The slick did not test positive for vegetation. The full extent of the slick due to imagery being unavailable. Image enhancements made it difficult to see the slick clearly. There were no known reports of a possible slick, nor could a point source be identified. Given these factors our confidence is limited to Medium-High for this report.
